Description

Considering the high seismic area in which Istanbul sits, it was important for us to investigate the city from the perspective of how tectonic shifts have impacted the way the city is and was reconstructed over time. How is it the city’s geographical location pretty much at the center of joint of two things; tectonic plates, two separate continents, at the midst of the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea

Began By Research

We started by collect and analysis literatures, books and hear storys from locals of the city of Istanbul. We were fasinated by the story of the Black Book by Pamook, the idea of a dying brosfurous and the greater revelations in the histories of Istnbul left as artifacts.

This is a research project so we had many ideas and concept that we want to test out, keep scrolling to see our

WHEN IN DOUBT
BUILD MODELS

Like many architecture students, we were once confused and lost in the world of ideas. But it is important to get yourself together and start making things. It doesn't matter if it's a sketch, drawings or models, as long as you are producing things, you will be Okay!

We dcided to CNC the city and cut them in strips...

We then dcided to spin them...

Here are the results...

Now On To Our Final Concept

Acting as Instanbul’s space of posche, the traditional turkish bath becomes an entry into the subsurface. Displaced earth results from this subtraction of the landscape that must be replaced.

Similarily to our last concept, we decided that a "cut" would happen throughout the city, to reveal the unseen side of Istanbul.
